The Good Enough Cycle Sounds Like A Great Fantasy Series
Lengthening The Good Enough Cycle - Following on from the article I shared last week that we need to learn to only replace our tech when it's actually broken or not meeting out need, this survey shows that smartphones are starting to get a longer refresh cycle. Though it should be said, some of this might be that iPhones aren't subsidized on replacement anymore. Your phone being good enough is a much different idea when you're looking at a 700-1000 investment rather than 200-400.
Facebook Is Sorry It Keeps Your Arguing - Gabe nails it here. Though it's easy to think that people are moving away from politics on Facebook, it's that Facebook is intentionally trying to pull back on its news content. They realized that if you get stressed out everytime you log on, you're going to log on less.
Stratford on Springfield - Stratford on Springfield - In a sign that the Simpsons might possibly be the Shakespeare of our time, another word from Springfield joins the dictionary. This time it is Embiggen. Formality aside, it's stunning to think how many neologisms can be tied to a single show.
Universal Consciousness And Feeling Robots - Rucker has always had a unique mind. His Ware trilogy has a unique Anarchist society of robots. This is his take on Panpsychism or the idea that everything in the universe has a mind. He leads into it by examining the arguments for Panpsychism by Skrbina. Then Rucker goes into his own thoughts from nonfiction books and finally ends on thinking robots.
Keyboard Without A Screen - I had one of these in college, they are pretty cool. However, the model I had required you to have it mass retype your document into a Word Processor. It still came in handy until I could afford a laptop.
Most Troubled Stomachs In America - Prohibition's weird side effects have created little drinking monoculture throughout the US. Washington Island is a neat little place. The dedication to drinking shots of bitters is worth celebrating.
