Some more night shifts really made it This Week's News.
When Tariffs Work - Considering the outrage around Trump's plans for tariffs, it isn't hard to find any favorable coverage. Hell, even the American Thinker just framed it as his marriage of populism with traditional conservatism, not a stunning endorsement. FiveThirtyEight has a mild defense of the tariffs using Reagan's tariff on motorcycle imports as an example.
Pivoting To Games As A Service - I always held up Halfbrick as an example of a mobile game developer that threads the needle in the mobile games' economy. They made unique games that were fun to play and included elements of free to play without spamming. Dan the Man was a great game that played like a lost 16-bit classic. It's sad to see them go, more so to see them just try and monetize two early hits.
A Clear-Eyed Look At Fusion - Neurological has some analysis of the MIT report that they are 15 years away from commercially viable Fusion power. The article breaks down how the tech works and where MIT might be too optimistic.
From The Bad Science Reporting Department - Reports of space mutations are greatly exaggerated. Nat Geo does a debunking of the reports that an astronaut with an identical twin has now mutated his DNA after an extended stay on the ISS. It's an excellent study in the way that the media misreports and distorts science stories and ultimately hurts public understanding of science news
Reading The Past - Trying to ensure that our exuberance for digital doesn’t outpace the ability to preserve it. Yale is working on a tool to make sure that old files stay accessible even if the programs and hardware are gone.
The Greatest Canadian Export - The Kids in the Hall were a massive influence on me, and one of my first comedy obsessions. This is a cool short film where the whole cast reminisces about their history.
An Impressive Display Of Pointless Rigor - I am unsure whether to be impressed or horrified at the amount of work that went into this breakdown of all the fast food sauces.
Alto's Odyssey Developer Q&A - This is one of the best studios in mobile game development. In an interview with Sweet Setup, they cover the unexpected things they ran into making the game, as well as the transition from app to game development.
