Bloomberg - In what is essentially a sign that we're totally screwed as an industry, Bloomberg alleges that China has managed to get snooping devices on the silicon in high profile servers made by Super Micro. These chips found their way into Apple and Amazon's data centers, putting everyone's privacy at risk.
Retuers - The problem is that Apple and Amazon both dispute the article. Apple basically published their own point by point rebuttal to the piece, which didn't mince words.
Tensions between China and the US are already rising as Trump rattles the trade war sabers, but if this is true, it breaks everything. The entire global technology industry relies on Chinese manufacturing in significant ways, and China has a near monopoly on the rare earth minerals required in manufacturing. Keep on an eye on this one; the implications are dire for privacy, the economy, and foreign policy.
