Book Review - Why My Cat Is More Impressive Than Your Baby
Matthew Inman was mildly late to webcomics when compared to many of the artists who defined the genre. (Who knows? Maybe NPR will make a comic and we’ll get to hear how Ira Glass invented webcomics.) However, he managed to catch on to pretty wide acclaim. Garnering not only popularity for his comic and collected paperbacks he has also has published three card games and ran a successful fundraiser to build a Tesla museum. Now Inman is a designer for Illumination Animation, meaning that his comic is going on a bit of hiatus.
I am not sure if that means this is the final collection of Oatmeal comics, or if it's just the last for the near future. Why My Cat Is More Impressive Than Your Baby is a collection of mostly new comics. It's a fun collection I tore through in a couple of hours after getting it delivered.
Inman has a very distinctive art style, one that has been memed enough times across the Internet that you’ve probably seen it before. The jokes are pretty lighthearted, making it a good antidote to the heavy prose books I have been reading lately.
If you're a fan of The Oatmeal, pick this up. If you just like goofy comics, pick this up. If you like weird jokes about pets and how they rule our lives, pick this up. Comic strip collections don't review well, but trust me this is hilarious. Check it out.
